Friday, April 11th, 2008The first flower of spring
Saturday, February 9th, 2008Yes, the long bitter Southern California winter is over. The flowers are starting to bloom

(I’m no flowerologist, but I’m pretty sure that’s either a Nasturtium or a Daffodil, I always get those confused)
It’s pushing 80 degrees out at 10AM. The birds are chirping or whatever it is birds do. People are swimming. Thank god. I don’t know if I could have taken the frozen 60s much longer.

Ice Ice Baby
Friday, October 5th, 2007Remember how in school or maybe at a museum you saw that demo of dunking things like flowers and rubber balls in super-cooled liquid nitrogen, then dropping them and watching them shatter? That’s my girlfriend’s idea of a hot shower.
Here she is taking a bath.

See the smile on her face? Just right!
It’s trying to speak
Monday, September 24th, 2007We saw Muse Friday night at Irvine Meadows (it’s called something else now, but screw that, it’s Irvine Meadows). It was a fantastic show. The more I think about it the more I think it was the best show I’ve ever been to. I love Absolution and the new one has been growing on me steadily, but they always sounded like studio songs to me, I didn’t expect them to work so well live despite people saying they’re a good live band. I was so wrong. Everything they played sounded better live than the recorded versions, often a lot better. I was blown away. They are clearly a live act first and foremost.
They’re apparently out of the U.S. for the rest of this year, but if you ever get a chance to see them, don’t stop to think about it, GO.
Dust in the wind
Saturday, September 22nd, 2007Her, writing a blog post: “Why can’t I delete this period? What is that?”
Me: “That’s a speck of dust”
Her: “…”

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007I never thought I’d wind up living with someone with such radically different beliefs from my own, but here we are. I’m still crazy about her, but the philosophical hurdles are enormous. It’s easy to quantify, however. We have one key belief that to some people not willing to stick it out would probably mean the end.
I’ll stop beating around the bush and spell it out for you. She thinks The Wrath of Khan is the worst Star Trek movie.
I’m just not going to talk to her about Star Trek ever again.
